Target promotions to logged-in customers based on Shopify customer tags. Abra’s Customer Account setting lets you create gated experiences for loyalty tiers, VIP members, or B2B or wholesale buyers. Only users with specific tags will be able to see and access the promotion.
What Are Customer Account Promotions?
These promotions are only visible and available to customers who are logged in and have a specific Shopify customer tag. Anyone else browsing your store won’t see or access the promotion.
Visibility Options in Abra
Abra has the following visibility options:
- Private: Only accessible via a private Abra-generated link.
- Public: Available to everyone visiting your storefront.
- Customer Account: Only visible to logged-in customers who have a specific Shopify customer tag.
How to Set Up a Customer Account-based Promotion
- Create your promotion in Abra
- Set Visibility to Customer Account
- In another window, add a customer tag to all customers in this segment or set up an automation using Shopify Flow to tag them. Create a customer segment in Shopify using that tag.
- Then, navigate back to your discount in the Abra app. Enter the Shopify customer tag (ex. VIP). Ensure that the customer tag exactly matches the one added to the customer accounts
- Finish adding the Discount and Storefront blocks, then save and launch your promotion. Only customers logged into an account with the matching tag will be able to see and access the promotion.
Tips & Best Practices
- Enhance with Dynamic Pricing: We recommend setting up Dynamic Pricing alongside your private promotions to to automatically display discounted prices throughout your store. When combined with the Customer Account visibility settings, only those customers with the link will see the special pricing while browsing, making the offer feel truly exclusive and increasing conversion rates. - Customize Storefront blocks: You can also add targeted banners that appear only for tagged customers. This allows you to reinforce the exclusivity and can significantly boost conversion rates on your promotions.

Q: What if the customer isn’t logged in or doesn’t have the tag?
A: Customers won’t see the promotion unless they are logged in and have the matching tag.
Q: Can I run multiple exclusive promotions for different tags?
A: Yes! Abra supports running multiple tag-based promotions concurrently for different tags, but we recommend against having customers with multiple tags overlapping, since that can lead to unpredictable promotion activation for those customers.
